DILI, Timor Leste – The U.S. ambassador to Timor Leste, Judith Fergin, invited sailors and Marines from Commander, U.S. 7th Fleet, her flagship USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) and C7F “Far East Edition” band to her residence for a social gathering, June 25, 2013 as part of the growing partnership and friendship between Timor Leste and America.

During her opening remarks, Fergin expressed what an awesome opportunity this was to build great bonds of friendship by adding joy not only from the sailors and Marines but the 7th fleet band as well.

The event opened with light music from the band and an introduction of former president to Timor Leste and Noble Peace Prize recipient (1996), Jose Ramos-Horta, who made a guest appearance.

Ramos-Horta emphasized that as friend of the U.S. the importance for him to welcome America’s visitors and even requested a popular Elvis Presley song "Hound Dog" from the band.

“This was the most well received ambassador’s engagement I have done in my entire career,” said Lt. Geordie Kelly, 7th Fleet band master. “It was the perfect storm of a great band, hostess and audience.”

With over 200 hundred guests in attendance, sailors and Marines were given the opportunity to sing and dance with the locals.

“I had a great time at the ambassador’s house; it was better then I expected,” said Information Technician 2nd Class Rokesha Payne, 7th fleet systems administrator. “The ambassador was very friendly and down to earth and this was a memorable event.”

Fergin emphasized the joy she received in having the C7F band play live music during the event. “Thank you for the best night ever!” Fegin added.

Blue Ridge and embarked 7th Fleet staff are currently on patrol operating forward while building maritime partnerships and conducting security and stability operations.
