MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Lieutenant Col. Larry E. Huggins, Jr., relinquished command of 2d Marine Special Operations Battalion (2d MSOB), Marine Special Operations Regiment, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Special Operations Command (MARSOC), to Lt. Col. Benjamin J. Pappas, during a Change of Command ceremony in front of the MARSOC Headquarters at Stone Bay on Thursday, June 28, 2013.
Marines, Sailors, family and friends were in attendance to watch the change of command, signified by the passing of the colors between the two commanders at the MARSOC Headquarters.
Huggins thanked the Marines and Sailors of 2d MSOB after the ceremony for their hard work and dedication they have put forth in supporting the battalion’s mission.
“The Marines within this unit truly are special in that they are dedicated to the mission,” Huggins said. “I don’t know where they find the caliber of Marines who become operators or attach to us as support, but the Marines within this command are by far the best Marines I’ve had the privilege to work with.”
Pappas said he hopes to continue the success that the battalion has seen under Huggins’ command.
“I’m here to serve you, the mission and the unit,” Pappas said. “I know we have great things ahead of us.”
Both Huggins and Pappas are decorated war veterans who have served in various campaigns and deployed to other regions around the world for military to military engagement and training.
