SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. – This week’s Third Army/ARCENT Soldier of the Week is Spc. Destinee K. Johnson, Third Army/ARCENT battle update brief technician, Third Army/ARCENT signal group. The Daytona Beach, Fla., native comes to Third Army/ARCENT from the 172nd Infantry Division in Germany, her first duty station, after enlisting into the U.S. Army in 2010. Although Johnson has spent only three years in the Army, she can recall times during her childhood when she ran in battalion runs with her father, a retired sergeant major.
“Physical fitness training is something I have always done. When I was younger, my dad would bring me to his unit and I would run with him and the soldiers,” said Johnson. “Running is something you get good at with practice.”
Q: What are your current military/professional goals?
A: My goal is to obtain all the certifications required for my MOS (Military Occupational Specialty).
Q: What would you like to be doing 10 years from now?
A: I hope to be a warrant officer, if I’m in the military, or teaching, if I am not.
Q: Besides being a soldier, what did you want to be when you were younger?
A: When I was younger, I wanted to be a gastroenterologist.
Q: What is your favorite thing about being a soldier?
A: I like that we have free personal trainers.
Q: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you want with you?
A: My dog, a satellite phone, and my husband.
Q: If you could spend an hour with anyone, who would it be and why?
A: With my parents, because I don’t get a chance to see them much since they’ve moved to Japan.
Q: Where is your favorite place to vacation?
A: I hope to visit Brazil.
Q: What was the best birthday gift you ever received?
A: When I graduated from high school, my mom gave me an album of all the pictures taken of me, since I was born. It was like I was able to see myself through their eyes. I really appreciate having that part of me to share with my future family.
