MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. - Free driving range tokens are available for active duty service members every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the pro shop on the Medal of Honor Golf course aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico.

The Medal of Honor Golf Course is a place for military members, retired military members and civilians, both with and without Department of Defense identification to learn the game or just to practice their swings on the driving range.

The civilians have to call the course ahead of time before coming to the golf course and playing.

“The golf course here is a very traditional golf [because it is a 18-hole course] course, and that can make it challenging for some people,” said David Hansinger, golf professional, Medal of Honor Golf Course.

The difficulty of the course depends on the outdoor condition, said Hansinger

The tokens can be redeemed for 55 range golf balls that can be used at the driving range to practice swings and learn the game.

The course is a place to learning about the proper etiquette and history of the golf course, said Hansinger.

“The golf course is a great place to go to pick up the game of golf and gives the younger Marines something to do on the weekends,” said retired Col. Scott Walker, who lives in Stafford.

Wednesdays are a great time to come out to the driving range to practice because there is a professional golfer out here who can teach them the proper way to swing, said Walker

The driving range regularly has anywhere from three to 10 people depended on the condition outside, said Hansinger. However, there is an indoor golf course that is offered during extreme outdoor conditions.

Pro shop hours on Mondays through Thursdays are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and golf course hours are

    7 a.m. to dusk.
