    88th Readiness Division

FORT McCOY, Wis. – Command Sgt. Maj. Michael B. Koszuta Sr., relinquished responsibility as command sergeant major of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 88th Regional Support Command, to Command Sgt. Maj. David J. Unseld during a change of responsibility ceremony at the headquarters in Fort McCoy, Wis., July 9.

Maj. Gen. Karen E. LeDoux, the commander of the 88th RSC, presided over the ceremony.

"Command Sgt. Maj. Koszuta’s superb leadership the past three years has inspired the soldiers and civilians of the 88th RSC," LeDoux said. "He has been demanding but fair and inspired excellence within this command improving proficiency and building esprit de corps."

Koszuta, a Milwaukee native, served with the 88th RSC for nearly three years when the command was relatively new transforming from a regional readiness command to a regional support command.

"Coming to the 88th almost three years ago I knew that we had base operations responsibility for the 19-state Northwest region of the United States and some outstanding Army bands," Koszuta said. "The bands were a blessing because I’ve been a musician since the Kennedy era. I would like to thank everyone at the 88th for teaching me so much. I’ve learned from every one of you. You have supported me as I know you will support Command Sgt. Maj. Unseld as he becomes the keeper of the colors."

Koszuta asked his family to stand and thanked them for showing him love over the past three decades. He said he was fortunate to wear the American uniform and grateful to those who did the same and that the next chapter of his life will be serving as an advocate for veterans. Koszuta was awarded the Legion of Merit for his exceptionally meritorious service in the performance of his outstanding Army Reserve career and retired serving more than 29 years.

"Command Sgt. Maj. Koszuta took pride in his job and supported the soldiers and families within the 88th RSC," Unseld said. "Throughout our careers we have always been told to take care of the soldier. In my view this has now evolved into taking care of the soldier and their family."

Unseld, a Hudsonville, Mich., native, comes from the 330th Medical Brigade based out of Fort Sheridan, Ill., where he served as the command sergeant major since April 14, 2011. He has served two combat tours in support of Operation Desert Shield/Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom III.

"Command Sgt. Maj. Unseld comes to the 88th RSC with significant credentials and a stellar reputation as a leader," said LeDoux. "He has served at every level, he has two combat tours; and a diverse well balanced resume. He has the knowledge and skill sets to sustain and grow the civilians and soldiers and the legacy of the 88th RSC."

"Knowing what the 88th has accomplished, one can be proud to be part of such an organization," Unseld said. "I look forward to the next three years of service as the command sergeant major of the 88th RSC and the challenges it will bring."

Unseld is a police officer in a law enforcement agency in Michigan.
