PAKTIYA PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Ninety-seven Afghan Local Police recruits graduated from their training course in Gardez district, Paktiya province, July 14.
The graduates will return to Jaji and Dand Patan districts with newly-acquired skills to secure their villages from enemy threats.
Afghan National Police trained the ALP candidates in a wide range of subjects including Afghan culture, Rule of Law, marksmanship, first aid, and counter-IED procedures.
The large number of graduates demonstrates the continued growth for the ALP throughout the province.
“The ALP are a very important asset to have in protecting the villages,” said Paktiya provincial chief of police, Brig. Gen. Zalmai Oriakhil. “All leaders should support this program.”
Afghan Local Police complement counterinsurgency efforts by providing security support to rural areas with limited Afghan National Security Forces presence by enabling conditions for improved security, governance, and development.
This is the first ALP graduating class hosted by the Gardez Regional Training Center which opened June 12.
