FORT BRAGG, NC- From day one in basic military training, soldiers learn the skills necessary to help protect themselves and their battle buddies in a combat environment.
One of these essential life-saving skills is how to react and respond in a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear or CBRN attack.
Recently, the 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade participated in their annual refresher course so that soldiers have the tools, resources and knowledge necessary to ensure mission readiness for future deployments.
The focus of the training was to prepare soldiers and increase their familiarity with their assigned gas mask, decontamination procedures and, of course, a run through the gas chamber.
“This is a perishable skill,” said Capt. David S. Kim, S3 operations assistant. “The CBRN training is an important training because it helps build confidence in your gear.”
During the training exercise, Soldiers were also given classes on how to mark a contaminated area, how to identity and determine what chemicals are in the area, how to properly put on a Joint Service Lightweight Integrated Suit Technology and the five levels of Mission Oriented Protective Posture.
“Honestly I enjoyed it,” said Staff Sgt. Rachael D. Loken, senior paralegal noncommissioned officer. “It's definitely a good training to keep updated. For the time allotted and limited resources the training was great.” She also stated that the CBRN training was very timely and needed.
Through tough realistic training, Spartan soldiers and the command teams of the 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade are ensuring that they are ready for anything.
