    Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka

YOKOSUKA, Japan - The United Services Organization (USO) on board Fleet Activities (FLEACT) Yokosuka, honored Sonar Technician Submarine 2nd Class Jeremy Lattimer (IUSS), assigned to Commander, Submarine Force Pacific Navy Data Center (CSPNDC), with a certificate of appreciation in an awards ceremony, July 11.

“It was outstanding, very exciting, and a privilege to receive this award,” Lattimer said.

Presenting Lattimer with his certificate of appreciation and a special USO command coin were USO Japan Country Director Juliet Bucayu-Domingo and Maggie Constantino, the manager of USO Yokosuka.

Constantino said that Lattimer is one of their key volunteers, and now runs their volunteer program.

“We’ve had some staff departures, and he’s literally stepped up and acts like our volunteer coordinator,” said Constantino. “The volunteers have come to rely on him.”

According to Constantino, Lattimer brought new program ideas to USO Yokosuka such as Ultimate Fighting Championship bouts and volunteered more than 270 hours to the center since he began volunteering.

CSPNDC Commanding Officer Cmdr. Eric Lindfors is proud of the efforts of one of his sailors.

“This is an excellent opportunity to show recognition for some hard work,” Lindfors said. “It’s great to see that you’re out there supporting the rest of your shipmates.”

USO Yokosuka is looking for more volunteers. The recent deployment of USS George Washington (CVN-73) and other forward-deployed ships has left the USO with a shortage of volunteers.

The USO is a private, non-profit, Congressionally charted organization that relies on volunteer support of individuals, organizations, and corporations to support its activities.
