FORT STEWART, Ga. - The 385th Military Police Battalion jumped out to an early lead and went on to beat Company D, 3/160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment 12-7 in the Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield Softball Championship game, July 16, at Bennett Complex on Fort Stewart.
The 385th MP Bn. advanced to the championship game by winning the Fort Stewart softball championship game held last month.
The 160th SOAR ‘Night Stalkers’ advanced to the game by winning the Hunter championship game last week.
The champions collected 15 hits, including two home runs in capturing the overall title.
They jumped on top by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning and three runs in the second inning, while limiting the Night Stalkers to just two runs after the first two innings.
The 'Dragoons' added another run in the fourth inning when Cpl. Ryan Machold, the catcher and military police with 546th MP Company, hit a towering home run to center field to increase the score to 7-2.
The 385th MP Bn., team included soldiers from the 193rd and 546th MP companies.
The Dragoons added three more runs in the fifth with another home run, this time a two-run shot by Staff Sgt. George King, first baseman a from the 546th MP Co., The Night Stalkers also scored three runs in the fifth to draw closer at 10-6.
The Dragoons added two more runs in the sixth inning, while the Night Stalkers scored their final run of the game. Captain Chris Glasser pitched a perfect seventh to secure the title with a 12-7 victory.
