JACKSONVILLE, N.C. - Sgt. Maj. Bradley A. Prafke relinquished the honor and responsibility as the senior enlisted advisor of Marine Aircraft Group 29 to Sgt. Maj. John Elliot during a relief and appointment ceremony at the Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 29 flight line, July 26.

Sgt. Maj. Prafke served as the MAG-29 sergeant major since 2010. While serving with them, MAG-29 Marines have been deployed numerous times.

“In the past three years, we’ve had (MAG-29) Marines stationed all across the globe,” said Prafke. “We stay busy here. I’ve enjoyed my time at MAG-29. I’ve been able to work with some great people, and I got to do what I love doing: helping Marines with their careers.”

During the ceremony, Prafke said his final farewells to his Marines, and welcomed Elliot as the new MAG-29 sergeant major.
“I don’t want to give it up, and I don’t want to go home,” joked Prafke. “But since I have to, I can’t think of any other Marine who would do as good a job as Sgt. Maj. Elliot. He’s an outstanding Marine, and he’s been to more places than I can imagine.”

This is Elliot’s first time being stationed aboard Marine Corps Air Station New River.

“I am extremely impressed with the Marines I see here today,” said Elliot. “The professionalism and class of these Marines makes me glad to be a part of the Carolina (Marine Air-Ground Task Force).”

Before stepping into his new role of senior enlisted advisor of MAG-29, Elliot congratulated and thanked Prafke for all he has done.

“It’s hard to find the level of compassion and care that Sgt. Maj. Prafke shows these Marines,” said Elliot. “He has done a great job here. I will do all I can to use the foundation he has laid here.”
Elliot has deployed in support of many operations, including Operation Deny Flight, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

His personal awards include the Bronze Star with gold star in lieu of second award, the Purple Heart and the Marine Corps commendation medal with combat distinguishing device and gold stars in lieu of second and third awards.
