ANSF detain one, discover weapons cache in Kunar
KUNAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Afghan National Security Forces detained one insurgent and discovered a weapons cache in Jalalabad district, Kunar province, Aug. 3.
The Khas Kunar District National Directorate of Security received intelligence of a planned insurgent attack against an Afghan Local Police checkpoint in the district.
Afghan Local Police, Afghan National Army special forces and Afghan National Police quickly planned an operation to thwart enemy efforts and detained one insurgent.
The joint Afghan forces also recovered an enemy weapons cache consisting of four AK-47 rifles, 21 hand grenades and nearly 3,000 rounds of ammunition.
Progress in Afghanistan is real and tangible. Since the announcement of the fifth and final tranche of provinces to enter transition to full Afghan security, combined operations like this proves their capacity and capability to defend Afghanistan.
“We are more than willing to go into the districts and clear the areas of the enemy,” said Brig. Gen. Karim, Afghan National Army special operations commander. “We will continue to work with national and local police to take the necessary steps to continue to promote and increase security for the people living in this area.”
Afghan Local Police complement counterinsurgency efforts by providing security support to rural areas with limited Afghan National Security Forces presence by enabling conditions for improved security, governance, and development.
