COLUMBIA, S.C. - Col. Dale Hall, the former chief of staff of the South Carolina Army National Guard, commemorated 29 years of military service during his retirement ceremony Aug. 10, 2013, at the adjutant general’s office in Columbia.
“Thank you for letting me be your chief,” said Hall. “What a culminating job. It’s been a great privilege.”
Hall received his commission as a second lieutenant in 1984 from The Citadel. After joining the guard, he dedicated a majority of his career to the aviation assets of the SCARNG. Hall wrapped up his career by serving as the S.C. Guard’s 11th chief of staff.
“The chief is the pace setter and this guy has been extraordinary,” said Col. Ronny Finley, current chief of staff of the SCARNG. “What impressed me most was his passion and caring. That will inspire me.”
During the ceremony Hall received the Legion of Merit and the Guardsman Retirement Medal.
“The report card that really matters is the one that comes six months or 10 years after you’re gone reflecting the people that are still there,” Hall said. “What did they do for the organization? Our time here is so short. The true legacy is the people we’ve touched and what they do in the future.”
