591st Engineer Company
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — This past week, the 591st Engineer Company, “Team Venom,” commanded by Captain Martin Sigli, assisted the Afghan populous while supporting the Afghan Border Police (ABP) Security Forces Assistant Team (SFAT) and local Afghan Uniformed Police (AUP) here in southern Afghanistan.
With the end of Ramazan, many local citizens were gathering to pray together. The 3rd Zone Afghan Border Police commander, Col. Hajji Janan, wanted to ensure that the masses within the city had a dedicated and safe place to travel to and conduct the closing prayers for Ramazan.
In order to support the increased traffic, Team Venom was tasked to assess the trafficability along Highway 4 due to the influx of rainfall which left parts of the main road and several Afghan National Army (ANA) check points flooded. This presented issues for International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) and locals who commute through the area.
First Platoon therefore conducted a reconnaissance mission to support Coalition Forces, Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF), and local population.
The 591st Eng. Co. also cleared a field to provide a secure gathering area and prayer site for the people. In doing so, the platoon built rapport with the villagers and strengthened ties with the local ANSF.
