TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. - Marines and sailors aboard the Combat Center enjoyed food, laughs, and music during the Leatherneck Comedy Tour at the Sunset Cinema August 9.
The tour, sponsored by the Single Marine Program, featured stand-up comedians Rudy Rush, Brenda Colonna and Brandt Tobler, followed by a musical performance by Devin Star Tailes, better known as Dev.
“The comedians were hilarious,” said Pfc. Steven Long, student, Marine Corps Communication-Electronics School. “It was enjoyable for us to come out and have fun.”
“We want to continue this because it’s what the Marines want,” said Michael A. Brown, program specialist, Single Marine Program, Headquarters Marine Corps. “They want to laugh and have a great time.”
According to Brown, the Leatherneck Comedy Tour was started by the Single Marine Program at the request of Marines during past conferences. The show was organized, and has enjoyed success from its Marine Corps audiences ever since.
The entertainment was also selected by Marines.
“At Headquarters Marine Corps, we had the Marines rank the different music and comedians.” Brown said. “Marines from privates to staff non-commissioned officers chose what they liked best.”
“It means so much to give some laughter to these men and women that go through so much,” said Rudy Rush, stand-up comedian, Leatherneck Comedy Tour. “It’s been a great experience because I’ve been asked to come back and perform.”
After an hour of stand-up performances, musical artist Devin Star Tailes took the stage and sang to electronic dance music and bright lights as the audience danced and cheered.
The Leatherneck Comedy Tour is in its second year, and appeared at 14 installations last year. The show has traveled all over the United States and overseas to countries like Japan. This year’s tour will have a total of 24 shows when it finishes in September.
