FORT HOOD, Texas – The 2nd Battalion, 395th Field Artillery Regiment, 120th Infantry Brigade, Division West, held a change of command ceremony on Cameron Field near division headquarters here, Aug. 9.

Lt. Col. Randy Jimenez assumed command of the battalion from Lt. Col. Paul Stewart.

“There is no officer better prepared to assume this mission. We are blessed to keep him in the Bayonet Brigade,” said Col. Timothy Bush, 120th Infantry Brigade commander. “We are doubly blessed to be able to keep Emily, Danielle, Matthew and Katy, the archetypal Army family under the umbrella of the Bayonet Brigade family. We know the leaders and families of the Steel Battalion will continue to thrive under your compassion and engaged leadership.”

During the ceremony, Stewart, the outgoing battalion commander, spoke on his leadership views.

“It’s always a beautiful day when you command troops,” said Stewart. “Soldiers of the Steel Battalion understand that our success and organization is inconsequential to us, but the effect of our success is that the U.S. Army National Guard and Reserve soldiers we support are able to make their transition and return home intact.“

Stewart oversaw the deployment validation process for all units mobilized on Fort Hood. His expertise resulted in the effective training of over 14,000 soldiers and their leaders. His influence goes beyond the chain of command due to his understanding of the Operations Brigade mission. His work ethics and leadership has been a great example for his soldiers and leaders by demonstrating the balance of mission, team, and family.

“Col. Bush, it’s been a great ride. I thank you for all your support and I thank everybody for their support and always remember when you call out for Steel, you will always get Steel on target,” Stewart said. “This is ‘Steel 6’ ancient signing off the net: In the fight!”

Jimenez moves from the brigade staff command the battalion.

“As I depart the brigade staff, my feelings are bittersweet. I’d like to thank the staff who made it run like clockwork,” said Jimenez. “To the Steel Battalion, although your numbers are small, your mission is bigger than most people realize. It’s a privilege to join the team. Steel!”
