TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. - Lt. Col. Steven J. DeLazaro, commanding officer, Combat Logistics Battalion 7, relinquished command to Lt. Col. Sidney R. Welch during a change-of-command ceremony at Lance Cpl. Torrey L. Gray Field Aug. 23.
DeLazaro served as the commanding officer of CLB-7 from Nov. 2011 to Aug. 2013. He oversaw the systematic and physical transfer of more than 380 principal end items and ensured 100 percent accountability. DeLazaro also instituted a training plan that focused on knowledge gained from recent deployments to Afghanistan. In doing so, DeLazaro led his Marines in the execution of eight field exercises culminating in 143,031 convoy-related miles and the delivery of 7,267 short-tons of cargo.
According to DeLazaro’s award citation, his untiring efforts to carry out his demanding tasks with unfailing good judgment, effectiveness, and total devotion to duty, reflected great credit upon him, and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
Welch began his career as an enlisted Marine. He was a lance corporal with 1st Supply Battalion at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Calif., when he was accepted to the Enlisted Commissioning Program. Candidate Welch then went on to complete his officer training in Marine Corps Base Quantico and Little Creek, Va. Throughout his career, Welch has served with 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, Recruiting Station Houston, Texas and his most recent command, United States Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
“I’m looking forward to working with this unit,” Welch said. “This is a great unit and I want to keep it going in the right direction.”
