FORWARD OPERATING BASE TILLMAN, Afghanistan – Soldiers and civilians from Bagram Airfield conducted a Personnel Service and Support mission here July 10.

The mission brought supplies, services and entertainment to the troops at the small forward operating base where many of the amenities of larger bases are absent.

Soldiers on the ground at Forward Operating Base Tillman provided the leadership with feedback about what is being done right and what they need.

"We try to get out and get eyes on what they have and what they need to make an immediate impact," said Army Sgt. Maj. Kerry S. Tooley, the Combined Joint Task Force-82 personnel sergeant major. "We gather their issues and bring them to the chain of command at Bagram to tell them what they need at the FOBs."

Bryce Compton, Morale Welfare and Recreation director for the Combined Joint Operations Area, accompanied the PSS personnel to ensure troops at the FOBs are provided with services to make their lives better.

"We establish cyber cafes and phone services at the FOBs for the troops wherever and whenever we can get to them," Compton said.

Taking computers and phones to the FOBs allows troops the means to contact loved ones back home more frequently. The access also gives troops a way to complete educational courses online and conduct financial transactions easier.

AAFES employees also brought merchandise from the Post Exchange on Bagram to the troops at FOB Tillman.

"We get wish lists from the FOBs and we try to provide whatever is on that wish list as best we can," said Chris Taitingfong, AAFES business manager.

Members of the 82nd Airborne Division's All-American Band performed for the troops during the visit.

"We travel from FOB to FOB doing shows in the (dining facility) or wherever we can for the troops," said Spc. Joshua Bandy, a bass player in the band. "Days like today are fun; it's great when we can get to the smaller places that bigger groups can't get to."

"It helps a lot of the guys out here, we don't have the ways or means to go get things since we can't leave the FOB," said Army Sgt. Taion Harrison, camp mayor at FOB Tillman.
