Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. - Following the tradition of every Marine a marksman, recruits of November Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, fired their weapons Aug. 28, 2013, at one of the ranges on Parris Island, S.C.

Recruits learned and practiced different shooting positions for a week before firing a single bullet. Rifle qualification is a graduation requirement as well as an annual training requirement for Marines. November Company is scheduled to graduate Oct. 4, 2013.
