ALEXANDRIA, Ky. – Since 2004, Charlie Battery, 2nd Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment has been officially adopted by the northern Kentucky city of Alexandria. The Hell Fighters had an invite by the city to make an appearance in the city’s annual Labor Day parade held here Aug. 28.
“This is the oldest parade in the commonwealth still using its original fairground facilities,” stated Mayor Bill Rachford.
In 2008-2009, the Hell Fighters deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Alexandria’s local group the “Charlie’s Angels” sent over 80 care packages and cards for all holidays and birthdays. That support was important to the soldiers.
The Charlie’s Angels, led by city treasurer Karen Barto, is already preparing for Charlie Battery’s next rendezvous with destiny; by working with the Battery weekly and supporting its functions. She also states she “plans to support the next Hell Fighter deployment by sending more care packages, cards and raising money to provide any additional needs.”
Community involvement events like this foster an environment that continues to maintain strong relationships and ensure mutual support.
