FORT STEWART, Ga. - The primary mission of the 148th Brigade Support Battalion (BSB) is to plan, coordinate, synchronize, and execute replenishment operations in support of the 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT) operations.

It distributes supplies, provides food services, and Army Health System (AHS) roles, as well as field maintenance and limited recovery. It maintains visibility of the theater distribution system, synchronizing the flow of throughput into the brigade's operational area.

The 148th BSB is at the Georgia Garrison Training Center where they have set up a brigade support area (BSA) in connection with eXportable Combat Training Capabilities (XCTC) training designed to simulate actual battle using real world scenarios.

“We are actually doing all of our job skills in the field, not relying on support elements,” said Maj. Mariel Potts, the executive officer for the 148th BSB. “We've got observer controllers from 188th Infantry Brigade evaluating our SOPs (standard operating procedures) and TTPs (tactics, techniques, and procedures) to help us improve our operations.”

The 148th BSB is broken down into eight companies, which are located throughout the state of Georgia. Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) (Falcon), located in Macon, has the command group and provides command and control to include administrative actions for units assigned and attached to the 148th BSB.

Alpha Company (Road Runner), the distribution company is located in Dublin and provides transportation support to the brigade, moving fuel, water, dry cargo and ammunition. Alpha Company’s distribution supply capability includes general supplies, repair parts, bulk petroleum, ammunition, water purification, and water distribution. In addition, Alpha Company provides supply support to the 148th BSB, the 48th IBCT headquarters, and the 48th Brigade Special Troops Battalion (BSTB).

Bravo Company (Renegade), the field maintenance company is located in Jackson and provides field maintenance support to the 148th BSB, the 48th IBCT headquarters, and the 48th BSTB.

Charlie Company (Scalpel), the medical company is located in Macon and provides Role 2 medical care to include behavioral health support to all units within the brigade.

Delta (Dragon), Echo (Easy), Fox (Fox), and Golf (Raven) companies are located in Calhoun, Winder, Albany and Brunswick counties, respectively, and are all Forward Support Companies (FSC) providing the same services that Alpha and Bravo companies provide, on a smaller scale. These FSCs are attached to the 1st Squadron, 108th Cavalry; 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 121st Infantry Regiment; and 1st Battalion, 118th Field Artillery Regiment, respectively.

The 148th BSB’s companies have participated in campaigns to include: the Indian Wars, Civil War, World War I, World War II, and the war on terrorism. It has deployed in 1990, 2005 and 2009 in support of Operation Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, respectively.

"Overall this mission [XTCT] will help us build confidence in ourselves and our team," said Potts. "This will enable us to support the brigade (48th IBCT), and build their confidence that we will be there, on time and on point to support them. To keep them battle ready for future operations where ever it may be in the world."

The 148th BSB has been decorated with the Presidential Unit Citation (Army), Streamer embroidered HURTGEN FOREST; the French Croix de Guerre with Silver-Gilt Star, World War II, Streamer embroidered BRITTANY; the Luxembourg Croix de Guerre, Streamer embroidered LUXEMBOURG; the Presidential Unit Citation (Army), Streamer embroidered PAPUA; the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, Streamer embroidered Oct. 17, 1944 to July 4, 1945; the Presidential Unit Citation (Army), Streamer embroidered HURTGEN FOREST; the Luxembourg Croix de Guerre, Streamer embroidered LUXEMBOURG; the Presidential Unit Citation (Army), Streamer embroidered HURTGEN FOREST; and the Luxembourg Croix de Guerre, Streamer embroidered LUXEMBOURG.
