FORT BLISS, Texas - Soldiers from the 734th Explosive Ordnance Company returned to Fort Bliss Sunday after a nine-month deployment in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The 734th Ordnance deployed in January to Kandahar, Afghanistan, to support RC-South, commanded by the 3rd Infantry Division, and the Afghan National Security Forces.
The 45-man unit was responsible for providing counter improvised explosive device support, route clearing and training for the ANSF.
During their mission, almost all combat support missions were conducted jointly with ANSF to better train and mentor them so they can continue to provide security for their country.
Capt. Daniel Voss, commander of the 734th Ordnance, marched his unit into the waiting area at Biggs Airfield and reported the return of his unit. Col. Heyward Hutson III, commander of the 212th Fires Brigade, congratulated the soldiers on completing their mission and thanked the families for their resiliency and patience during the deployment.
After a few words from Hutson, the soldiers where then dismissed and ran to their families and friends for embraces and some well-deserved time off that was nine months in the making.
