LANSING, Mich. – Michael T. White, the Land Component commander for the Michigan Army National Guard, has been promoted to the rank of brigadier general.
The Canton, Mich., resident has been a member of the Michigan National Guard for 15 years and a member of the Army National Guard for 25 years. He has served in numerous staff, operations, and command positions from platoon level through brigade commander. Prior to assuming his current position with the Joint Forces Headquarters, he was the commander of the 177th Military Police Brigade for the Michigan Army National Guard in Taylor, Mich.
White attended Western Carolina University and received his commission in 1983 through ROTC. White served as the deputy commanding officer of the 46th Military Police Command and deployed with the unit to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He has also deployed in support of Operation Noble Eagle as well as Operation Desert Shield/Storm.
During his military career, White received numerous awards including the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and the Joint Service Achievement Medal among other recognition.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, N.C., and is a graduate of the United States Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pa.
White and his wife, Cheryl, have two children, Jordan and Meredith.
