Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve

BISMARCK, N.D. - Reserve component service members in North Dakota have the opportunity to nominate their employers for the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense office, is now accepting nominations thru Jan. 20, 2014.

The Freedom Award is the Department of Defense’s highest honor presented to civilian employers for exceptional support of their National Guard and Reserve employees. Guardsmen and reservists, or family members acting on their behalf, are encouraged to submit nominations at www.FreedomAward.mil. Each year, up to 15 deserving employers are selected as Freedom Award recipients and honored in Washington, D.C.

Service members may also visit the esgr.mil website to nominate employers for the Patriot Award and the Above and Beyond Award, which are valuable stepping stones toward the Freedom Award.

"North Dakota employers provide incredible support to the employees they share with the military," said ND ESGR Chair Robert O. Wefald. "We want to recognize their efforts."

Guard and Reserve members comprise nearly one-half of the nation’s military force, providing essential services to national security and humanitarian efforts at home and abroad. Supportive
employers, with their enduring commitment, have helped keep our military strong and our nation secure.

North Dakota's Basin Electric Power Cooperative, Bismarck, was selected in 2012 and Ag Country International, Fargo, received the award in 2006.
