FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. - Holiday travel just got easier for members of the U.S. armed forces.

The Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Defense plan to expand TSA Precheck expedited screening benefits to all U.S. armed forces service members, including those serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Reserves and National Guard at 100 participating airports across the country beginning Dec. 20.

“It is a voluntary, expedited security screening process that allows participants to keep on their shoes, belt and light jacket, and leave laptops and 3-1-1 compliant liquids in their carry-on bags,” said Darlene Battle, installation transportation officer. “They just need to include their Department of Defense identification number as the Known Travel Number when making reservations.”

When arriving at the airport, service members will then be permitted access to TSA Precheck lanes for official or leisure travel on participating airlines.

According to Battle, TSA Precheck is currently available for passengers traveling on Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and Virgin America.

“This is a great time-saving tool and a fantastic way to recognize the sacrifices that our military members make for our country,” she added.

According to defense.gov, TSA will incorporate random and unpredictable security measures throughout the airport and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.

For a list of participating airports and terminals, please visit the TSA Precheck at www.tsa.gov/tsa-precheck.
