UNDISCLOSED LOCATION - Construction is progressing on schedule for a new fitness center for the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing.

Airmen from the 557th Expeditionary Rapid Engineer Deployable, Heavy Operations Repair Squadron Engineer, more commonly known as Red Horse, are working to build the new facility here scheduled to be completed by April 2014.

“The new fitness center is needed to provide a safer, better equipped fitness facility for the members of the 380 AEW,” said Rachael Groft, 380th Expeditionary Force Support Squadron fitness director.

The new fitness center Red Horse is building will provide additional space to better support the number of personnel here, said to Capt. Jonnathan Page, 557 ERHS site officer in charge.

RED HORSE provides a highly mobile and self-sufficient Air Force heavy repair and heavy construction capability to support contingency operations world-wide and quality construction at a lower cost since the only cost is materials, said Page

“We finish our projects more quickly than if it were contracted construction,” said Page. “There is also a personal involvement, drive and pride in the work Red Horse does to complete the job and making it the best facility possible.”

“We're not just out here to build a building and get paid,” he said. “We put great care into the construction process on our end. These facilities are now tied to our name (Red Horse) and our team wants to make it look good.”

The new facility will help expand fitness and sports programming by having a designated group exercise room for fitness classes, said Groft. Additionally, it will have two indoor basketball courts so they may offer indoor sports and physical training programming during the hot summer months.

The new fitness center will be fully equipped with full lines of free weight equipment, selectorized weight equipment, cardio equipment, 2 indoor basketball courts, and a designated multi-purpose room.

“In addition, the new fitness center will allow us to potentially expand the current tactical fitness sprung to provide better training opportunities for our ever-growing tactical fitness enthusiasts,” said Groft.

“The aspect I believe people will most enjoy is simply having more space and expanded fitness opportunities,” said Groft. “We will have a much larger floor plan, which will provide a much more ideal fitness environment for members to unwind, de-stress and work on their fitness goals.”
