SAN DIEGO - Capt. Kurt Rothenhaus relieved Capt. Joe Beel as commanding officer of the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific (SSC Pacific) at a change of command ceremony Dec. 17.
A native of New York City, Rothenhaus received his commission after graduating from the University of South Carolina. He holds a Master of Science in computer science and a doctorate in software engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School. He became an engineering duty officer in 2003.
Rothenhaus’ operational assignments included USS Fife (DD 991), USS O’Brien (DD 975), Destroyer Squadron FIFTEEN, and combat systems/C5I officer on USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). Additionally, he served in Baghdad developing counter-insurgency and reconstruction systems for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 2006.
His acquisition assignments included project manager at Space and Naval Warfare System Center Pacific, assistant program manager for Maritime Domain Awareness, Pacific Fleet CVN Modernization manager, Future Command and Control assistant program manager, assistant program manager for the Consolidated Afloat Network Enterprise System network program, and deputy program manager for Communications and GPS.
Following the ceremony, Beel retired from the Navy after 29 years of service.
