KILLEEN, Texas. – Capt. Jose Jimenez is a member of Detachment 7, 3rd Medical Command, which is scheduled to take over duties and missions to run the 3rd Medical Command (Deployment Support) Operational Command Post (Forward) at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. In addition to preparing for his upcoming deployment, Jimenez defended his dissertation while in training.
“It was tough to balance the demands of saying goodbye to loved ones, packing my belongings, and making sure I was well versed in the research I was presenting,” says Jimenez. “I am grateful for the opportunity to train while studying, and for the support of the detachment.”
Jimenez will graduate in early February from Virginia Tech University with a doctorate in systems and industrial engineering applied to health care acquired infections. His doctoral degree will greatly supplement his career as an Environmental Science officer in the Army Reserve.
Jimenez first came to the United States as an international cadet from Costa Rica appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated in 2001. After the events of 9/11, Jimenez entered the Army Reserves, and shortly thereafter earned his commission.
Jimenez is married to Capt. Lara Brennecke, a 2002 graduate of the United States Military Academy and is currently a veterinarian in the Army.
He looks forward to participating overseas in an operational role, and hopes to gain more leadership skills and knowledge beyond his doctoral degree.
