AL FAW PALACE, Iraq - The 62nd Medical Brigade from Fort Lewis, Wash., assumed authority from Task Force 3rd Medical Command during a transfer of authority ceremony at Camp Victory's Al Faw Palace, Aug. 15.
The color guard displayed the colors proudly as Army Col. Patrick Sargent, 62nd Medical Bde. commander, received the transfer of authority.
After casing TF 3 MEDCOM and uncasing 62nd Medical Bdes colors, Army Maj. Gen. James Simmons, deputy commanding general, Multi-National Corps-Iraq, summarized the many accomplishments of TF 3 and welcomed the 62nd Medical Bde.
Simmons said he is confident the 62nd will "continue building on the foundation that has been established."
Upholding a tradition of transfer ceremonies, the incoming and outgoing commanders spoke on behalf of their units.
As the ceremony concluded, Sargent offered words of inspiration to his unit and troops in attendance.
"The price of freedom is eternal vigilance, and today the 62nd Medical Brigade joins the ranks of our fellow warriors who are currently answering our nation's call to arms," he said. "The blanket of freedom under which Americans and Iraqis sleep is woven in part with sacrifices of healthcare professionals."
