    76th Operational Response Command

FORT HOOD, Texas (Feb. 8, 2014) — Approximately 20 Army Reserve Cyber soldiers from the Army Reserve Information Operations Command’s South West Information Operations Center Detachment 55 out of San Antonio are scheduled to deploy to Camp Arfijan, Kuwait, to provide defensive cyber operations and information assurance support as part of the South West Asia Cyber Center for a nine month deployment later this month.

The SWACC supports Coalition Forces Land Component Command by conducting constant network operation and security management on the South West Asia Army Land War Net and Theater Information Grid by ensuring availability, integrity, identification, authentication, confidentiality and non-repudiation of friendly information systems while denying adversary access.

Among those deploying are Chief Warrant Officer 2 Don Beck, cyber operations officer in charge, from San Antonio; Chief Warrant Officer 2 Rafael Whispell, cyber operations officer in charge, from San Antonio; and Staff Sgt. Martin Ayala, cyber assistance team non-commissioned officer in charge, from Houston.

This will be Beck’s first deployment, which he volunteered for, and with over 14 years of military experience in information technology, and eight years of civilian experience, he believes this combination will be a tremendous asset and help him to prepare for the mission.

“This is my first deployment and I’m looking forward to it,” said Beck. “I’ve known most of the team for years so for me it’s a privilege to go downrange with my friends. I can’t ask for anything better.”

Col. Sanford P. Artman, deputy commander of the 76th Operational Response Command out of Salt Lake City, visited the unit on behalf of Maj. Gen. Daniel York, commander of the 76th ORC, and Command Sgt. Maj. Jamespeter Matthews, command sergeant major of the 76th ORC.

“On behalf of them [Maj. Gen. York and Command Sgt. Maj. Matthews] I want to thank you for what you are about to do,” said Artman. “We appreciate all that you do and all that your families do.”
