    LANSING, Mich. — Kimberly Bratic (Lamb) of Lansing, Mich., has been promoted to the rank of Staff Sgt. in the Michigan Army National Guard.

    Bratic serves in the 126th Press Camp as a traditional soldier and works full-time in the Lansing-based, Joint Forces Headquarters Public Affairs Office. Her full-time responsibilities include media monitoring, writing and photography for a variety of publications and general office management, along with other tasks. She has been a member of the Michigan National Guard for nine months and was previously a member of the Ohio National Guard.

    Bratic attended basic training in 2010 at Fort Sill, Okla., and advanced individual training at the U.S. Defense Information School located at Fort Meade, Md. She deployed to Afghanistan in 2011 for a one year tour with the Ohio National Guard, 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. She completed more than 70 missions, took many photographs (www.fluidr.com/photos/37ibct), and published feature stories to world-wide media outlets. Bratic earned a Bronze Star Medal during her deployment.

    Prior to becoming a full-time public affairs representative, she was an administrator and professor at Stautzenberger College. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources and a master’s degree in Operations Management from American InterContinental University. She authors the Afghanbattlefox.com/ blog and posts video to the Afghan Battle Fox channel on YouTube®.

    Bratic is tentatively scheduled to participate in several 2014 training missions including: Operation Northern Strike, State Partnership Program Traveling Contact Team interactions (with Latvian and Liberian partners), eXportable Combat Training Capability (XCTC) training to take place at Camp Grayling involving six state’s National Guard units, and Vibrant Response at Camp Atterbury, Ind., where teams test the Defense Department’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Response. Additional smaller-scale exercises are also being planned.

    Bratic and her husband Luis share seven children, Chris (11), Cade (12), Cresston (13), Luke (13), Ashley (17), Eric (21) and Mark (23).

    She is the daughter of Susan Snavely of Union City, Mich., and Steven Karr of Pemberville, Ohio. Her grandfather, Richard Karr of Clyde, Ohio is also a decorated Veteran. Karr Sr. served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII in Sai Pan and Okinawa islands, Japan. He later served in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1950.
