LOS ANGELES – Congresswoman Grace Napolitano attended a deployment ceremony for the 730th Transportation Company, an Army Reserve transportation unit based at Bell, Calif., at the Bob Hope Patriot Hall in downtown Los Angeles Feb. 22.

The 730th TC will be supporting sustainment and retrograde operations by operating Palletized Loading Systems known as “PLS trucks” that expedite container loading, unloading and movement in rough terrain. Members of the heavy truck unit are from California, Arizona, Minnesota and Georgia.

“I am one hundred percent confident in these troops,” said Capt. Kevin Fillebrown, 730th TC detachment commander. “We have been through intensive training and my main concern is to make sure that every one of our soldiers returns safely.”

The Bob Hope Patriot Hall was filled to capacity with at least 400 people. Mothers were crying, fathers were filled with pride and children listened intensely as dignitaries made passionate speeches.

The 730th TC will report to their mobilization station in Texas to conduct additional administrative and training requirements for transition to active duty. After this training, the soldiers will deploy overseas to perform its mission of convoy security operations and sustainment support operations in Afghanistan.

Soldiers from the unit filled the stage and stood at attention, during the ceremony. Afterwards, Lt. Col. John T. Nolan, 311th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), huddled the troops in a horseshoe formation to give them an inspirational speech.

The Transportation Corps is a combat service support branch of the U.S. Army and is headquartered at Fort Lee, Virginia. At the end of the ceremony, the unit sang their transportation corps song.
