Mobilization and Deployment, DPTMS Fort Bliss

FORT BLISS, Texas – Tennessee Army National Guardsmen with the 269th Military Police Company departed the Arrival/Departure Air Control Group Feb. 28 to continue the stability operations in Afghanistan.

Capt. Mitchell Thompson, company commander, looks forward to the mission they will embark upon arrival.

“I think we are more than ready,” said Thompson, “We started this training a year and a half ago at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. when we received the order. Tennessee Army National Guard has gone above and beyond to get us ready to operate in the environment.”

For Spc. David A. Vega, this is his first deployment since he enlisted with the National Guard.

“I’m excited about it. There is a lot of mixed feelings, but it’s new and I hope it goes great,” said Vega.

It is also a first time deployment for Vega’s family, who moved to Tennessee from Puerto Rico when Vega was a young boy.

“I think throughout time and when the time passes by, they will get used to it and adapt,” said Vega. “I love them and I will see them soon.”

The 269th MP Company left Murfreesboro, Tenn., on Jan. 6, and spent eight weeks training at McGregor Range, N.M., and Contingency Operating Base Westbrook on various combat tasks and skills, such as combat lifesaving and live fire ranges.

Thompson reflected on the training his unit received while mobilized and extended his gratitude to the Directorate of Mobilization and Deployment and all of their personnel. Thompson expressed that “they did a phenomenal job.”

“We just want to thank the families, friends and our chain of command, the 117th MP Battalion, and 194th Engineer Bde. from Tennessee, for their support and continued prayers for the soldiers of the 269th MP Company deployed to Afghanistan,” said Thompson.
