JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. - The 7th Infantry Division held a “Sisters in Arms” mentorship seminar at Carey Theater, March 11.
Initially an effort by the division Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention program, “Sisters in Arms” is meant to educate and empower soldiers to be successful leaders while addressing the unique challenges for female soldiers. Guest speaker for the event was Lt. Col. Erika Cashin, U.S. Air Force, who was followed by a mixed-gender panel of senior leaders.
Developed as a forum for female soldiers to help enhance avenues of mentorship and empowerment in order to reach their full potential; the program has gone viral and spread throughout the Army worldwide.
Discussing topics such as sexual assault, sexual harassment, and gender discrimination, 7th Infantry Division launched their first "Sisters in Arms" program in January.
Inviting all military females on JBLM, the objective was to build bonds, instill unit cohesion and build bridges between the senior and junior females.
The army.mil website has stated about women in the Army, "as women expand into different roles in the U.S. Army, it is clear that the heart of a warrior is not limited to one gender. They continue to break down the barriers and rise to the challenges set before them.'"
