    311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Brig. Gen. Scottie Carpenter, 311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command commanding general, presided over the Yearly Training Brief Readiness Workshop on the March Air Reserve Base in Riverside March 17.

The purpose of the YTB Readiness Workshop is to clearly communicate to the 311th ESC down trace units procedural information and what is expected in all management sections for full accountability.

The Moreno Valley U.S. Army Reserve Center’s drill hall was filled with more than 300 personnel from the 650th Regional Support Group, 653rd RSG, 326th Financial Management Company, 304th Sustainment Brigade, 63rd Brigade Support Battalion and 311th Signal Command (Tactical). This is a five-day workshop.

“The importance of this workshop is to set into motion the CG's guidance in increasing readiness throughout the command and preview the unit’s yearly training plan for the fiscal year 2014 and 2015,” said Maj. Keith Irons, deputy chief of planning and event organizer. “This workshop maximizes the opportunity for units to collaborate with the 311th staff and other units in order to build, manage and provide well-led sustainment units.”

Effective training is the Army’s number one priority during peacetime. Training management is the process used by Army leaders to identify training requirements and then plan, resource, execute and evaluate training.

This annual briefing allows battalion and company commanders to discuss training concepts, philosophies and challenges with the higher level commanders, respectively.

“We hope to train, mentor and fix any readiness shortfalls these units may have,” said Irons. “By creating and confirming a well developed plan, we will execute a training program for the next fiscal year to accomplish these readiness goals.”

In the first phase of the workshop, the 311th ESC leadership will disseminate procedural information. In the second phase, the units will break down into groups for individual training.

Brig. Gen. Carpenter was thoroughly engaged in the briefings, making sure that the information put out was understood by all.
