FORT KNOX, Ky. - Approximately 15 Reserve soldiers from across the nation are competing in the 80th Training Command (TASS) annual Best Warrior Competition here March 17-21, 2014.
The 100th Training Division is hosting the event, which identifies the best competitors in the enlisted and noncommissioned officer categories.
"The next few days will be tough for the competitors," said Command Sgt. Maj. James Wills, 80th TC senior enlisted leader. "It takes a lot of commitment for these soldiers to step up to represent their unit, and I expect everyone to give a 110% effort."
Competition events will include an urban assault course, physical fitness, weapons handling, rifle and pistol marksmanship, drill and ceremony, land navigation, and first aid. The soldiers will also take a written exam and report before a panel of sergeants major in full dress uniform to answer questions ranging from military knowledge to current events.
Competitors were selected from among more than 6,800 Reserve soldiers assigned to the 80th TC's subordinate divisions, which are the 100th TD, headquartered here, the 102nd Training Division, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and the 94th Training Division, Fort Lee, Va.
"From what I have seen of the other competitors, we have a high caliber of soldiers here ready to represent themselves and their units," said Staff Sgt. Antonio Martell, a competitor assigned to the 3/399 Logistics Support Battalion, 800th Logistics Support Brigade.
The 80th TC winners will advance to the United States Army Reserve Command Best Warrior Competition.
"If I win the competition, it will be a testimony to myself," Martell added. "It will be an honor to represent the 80th at the USARC competition."
