LANSING, Mich. – Traveling Contact Teams of the Michigan National Guard will be a part of several engagement opportunities during the next quarter with Liberia and Latvia as part of the State Partnership Program with their respective countries.
Overseas Latvian SPP engagements within the next three months include exchanges of information in regards to joint fires observer, combat engineering, airbase management, and combat engineer noncommissioned officer development. Latvian SPP engagements will also include combat engineer basic course development scheduled to take place in Michigan mid-May.
The Michigan National Guard also plans to participate in Sabre Strike in early June. Sabre Strike is a multifaceted, U.S. Army Europe-led security cooperation exercise primarily focused on the three Baltic States. The exercise spans multiple locations in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia and involves approximately 2,000 personnel from 14 countries.
Liberian SPP engagements within the next three months will take place in Liberia and will include exchanges of information in regards to unexploded ordnance/explosive ordnance disposal procedures, legal writing in civilian and administrative law, financial and resource management operations, designated marksmanship, staff officer development, drill sergeant skills, collection management and staff intelligence, counterintelligence support to force protection, advanced carpentry construction, and advanced theater electrical system construction.
The Michigan National Guard has been in state partnership with Latvia for 21 years and with Liberia for four years.
