HINESVILLE, Ga. - Tucker native Sgt. Eric Hunt of the 1st Battalion 121st Infantry and Alpharetta native Pfc. Andrew Zipp of 2nd Battalion 121st Infantry, excelled above the competition to win the 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team Best Warrior Competition. Both competitors will head to the state competition next month.
“This competition is a matter of pride and by doing so I will be able to represent for the brigade on a state level,” said Hunt, an infantryman.
Soldiers were required to perform tasks such as the army physical fitness test, land navigation, written essay, a 6-mile road march, warrior skills and task, an obstacle course and a personal appearance before a board of commanders.
“Though tasks were a bit challenging, it taught me how to push through mentally and physically,” said Zipp, an infantryman.
Best Warrior Competitions select the best Soldiers at the unit level to compete at the brigade level. Over the course of the weekend, the Soldiers pushed themselves to the limits by completing every task presented to them.
“These Soldiers each have maintained a competitive spirit, and I hope all who participated will leave with a sense of accomplishment and pride for their unit,” said 1st Sgt. James C. Moore, 1st Battalion 121st Infantry.
The two winners will advance to compete at the state level for Soldier and NCO of the year on March 5-9, 2014 at Fort Stewart.
