ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. – A soldier from the 20th CBRNE Command will be awarded the Silver Star Medal Tuesday for his heroism during a Taliban attack Oct. 5, 2013, while deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Spc. Samuel Crocket will receive the honor during a valorous award ceremony at 1 p.m. at the Marshall Auditorium at Fort Benning, Ga.
The Silver Star is the Army’s third highest award for combat valor and is awarded for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States during military operations.
“It is an honor to receive it from the (75th Ranger Regiment) regiment. I am happy that they feel like I deserve it,” Crocket said.
