CAMP STRIKER, Iraq —Sometimes soldiering is a family affair. This was especially true Sept. 19, when the Multi-National Division-Baghdad command sergeant major attended the 1st Platoon, 747th Adjutant General Company (Postal), 15th Personnel Services Battalion's end of tour awards ceremony at the Army Post Office on Camp Striker, Iraq.
Command Sgt. Maj. Philip Johndrow not only addressed the platoon members, an Army Reserve unit from Helena, Mont., but also pinned Combat Action Badges on three Soldiers, one of whom was his nephew, Sgt. Kyle Mostad.
"It's a good feeling to know that I had family nearby during this deployment," Mostad stated.
Mostad, a postal finance clerk, earned the Combat Action Badge during an indirect fire attack against Forward Operating Base Loyalty on Dec. 1.
Also receiving CABs were Staff Sgt. James Campbell and Spc. Kenneth Miech for an indirect fire attack that occurred on Dec. 8.
Johndrow spoke briefly to the platoon, congratulating them on their hard work and constant support to the Soldiers of MND-B.
Lt. Col. Angela Odom, commander of the 15th PSB, officiated the ceremony, presenting two Meritorious Service Medals and 13 Army Commendation Medals to the Soldiers of the platoon.
Odom praised the Soldiers on their significant contribution to the war-fighters;
"You always provided outstanding postal support while keeping one another safe and focused on the mission," she said.
The 1/747th provided postal support to FOBs Rustimayah, Loyalty and Hammer for twelve months during their rotation in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
During that time, they processed nearly 2.4 million pounds of mail while providing postal services to more than 15,300 Soldiers.
