JOINT BASE MYER-HENDERSON HALL, Va. - A three-segment endurance fitness competition involving swimming, cycling and running was held the morning of April 16 on the Henderson Hall side of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall.
Entitled the Semper Fi Sprint Tri, the event incorporated both Maj. Douglas A. Zembiec Pool and Cpl. Terry Lee Smith Gymnasium where eight participants swam, ran and cycled in 10-minute intervals.
Caitlyn Conner, who is a swim instructor at the Fort Myer Officers Club pool complex, was one of three of the 6 a.m. triathletes. She admits swimming is her strongest triathlon event – she completed 27 lengths of Zembiec Pool during the 10-minute time limit-and added the treadmill run was challenging.
“This is my first triathlon,” she said. “I was trying to figure out the pacing [of the run and bike]. It was generally fun; I thought it may be a bit more stressful, but it was fun.”
Official results of the race were not available at press time.
This was the fourth annual Semper Fi Sprint Tri event held on the Henderson Hall portion of JBM-HH.
