JACKSONVILLE, N.C. - Providing the means for youth and teens to be able to have fun and socialize with their peers is what the Youth and Teen Center aboard Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) New River is all about.
With much anticipation, the new and improved Youth and Teen Center officially opened its doors to the public during a ribbon cutting ceremony inside the center April 17.
The improved center comes with a wide assortment of amenities to both support and entertain local military children.
“The new indoor recreational facility is a multi-purpose space,” said Tim Cook, children, youth and teen program administrator. “It will not only be used for the children’s activities during inclement weather, but we also have plans to use it for special events and activities in the future.”
The new indoor recreational facility is approximately 2,000 square feet and has the capacity to accommodate more than 300 people.
“The best part about this facility is that our kids no longer have to compete with Marines for gym space,” said Col. Timothy M. Salmon, MCAS New River commanding officer. “Now with this facility the kids have the ability to play basketball, volleyball or whatever else they want to without having to fight for gym space.”
