HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. – Soldiers from 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, received donated items from Operation Shoebox on Hunter Army Airfield April 17.

The donations will benefit the needs of tenant units on HAAF and its Families. Operation Shoebox has been to HAAF before—distributing more than 33,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies and additional food items to Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield Families Aug. 27, 2012.

Ron and Mary Harper founded Operation Shoebox to send care packages while five of her children, and two sons in law, were deployed around the world. The Harpers have a special connection with the military and Marne Division.

“The Third Infantry Division is very special to me because my kids were stationed there,” said Mary Harper during her visit to HAAF in 2012.

Army Sgt. 1st Class Shawanda Byers, 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, 3rd CAB, was the noncommissioned officer in charge of coordinating for units to pick up donations. She said the event will benefit unit Soldiers and Families.

“For people to take time out and give to Soldiers is awesome, they don’t have to do that,” said Byers. “It’s humbling for someone to tell you they appreciate what you do for their Families, and for the country. That is one of the kindest things someone can do is let a Soldier know they are appreciated.”
