OGDEN, Utah – Clad in running gear and donning plenty of warm gloves and hats, Airmen from Hill Air Force Base withstood the wintry weather and joined over 100 runners March 29 in support of an eight kilometer race benefiting wounded veterans.

Cadets from Weber State University’s Army Reserve Officer Training Corps sponsored the 8K run, the proceeds of which will go toward The Wounded Warrior Project, a national nonprofit providing direct services to wounded service members.

Master Sgt. Nicole Davison of the 368th Recruiting Squadron, headquartered at Hill, helped organize a team of five active duty Air Force runners to participate in the event. Although the tough and hilly course was made more difficult by high elevation and a low-temperature start, Davison said the race was ultimately satisfying for all involved.

“I think it’ll just be fun to be together, good team-building, running a few miles, just having a good day,” Davison said.

Technical Sgt. Daniel Bolin, also of the 368th Recruiting Squadron, stressed the significance of supporting wounded service members. He also emphasized a shared duty to honor those men and women in uniform who returned home bearing the physical and psychological scars of war.

“Wounded Warrior is a good organization,” said Bolin, a Mississippi native and formerly a jet engine mechanic. “It means a lot to come out and support people who have made those sacrifices.”

Air Force Capt. Morgan Hall from the 748th Supply Chain Management Group placed fourth overall in the race. He cited his love of running and desire to support a good cause as the main reasons for participating.

“Events like this embody what the Wounded Warrior Project is all about; getting together to spend time with friends and family,” Hall said. “As we get together and increase morale and esprit de corps we can help wounded warriors do the same.”
