PHOENIX –Foreign Military Attachés from over 30 countries recently visited various U.S. Army organizations in the Southwest United States as part of a Secretary of the Army-sponsored orientation program.
As a part of this program, the attachés, foreign military officers on diplomatic missions in the United States, visited Arizona Guardsmen April 29 during an orientation trip that included the U.S. Army’s active and reserve components.
The attachés visited Arizona Army National Guard units to learn about the various missions accomplished by Citizen-Soldiers here.
“Our goal was to provide them with a glimpse into some of our National Guard’s unique missions and to inform them about our role in the United States’ Department of Defense,” said Army Brig. Gen. William Hall, the land component commander of the Arizona Army National Guard.
Attachés from countries such as Australia, Austria, Canada, Chad, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, the Philippines, South Africa, Sweden, Uruguay and others met with members of the 91st Civil Support Team to learn about their duties as Guardsmen trained to respond to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear catastrophes.
The attachés then flew aboard Arizona Army National Guard UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters to Silverbell Army Heliport in Marana, Arizona, where they visited the Western Army Aviation Training Site and 1-285th ARB.
While at WAATS, they received an up-close look at UH-60 Black Hawk, AH-64D Apache Longbow, and UH-72 Lakota helicopters while Guard pilots explained aircraft capabilities and their experiences flying helicopters in support of state and federal missions.
“We are pleased that they chose to visit the Arizona Army National Guard and that they got to meet with some of the best warriors and Citizen-Soldiers in the United States,” Hall said.
