FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. – Members of the 1067th Transportation Company, 213th Regional Support Group, held their inaugural “Truck Rodeo,” a competition which displays the transportation Soldiers’ precision and driving skills, here during annual training.

There are a total of five events all testing how well the Soldiers can operate their vehicles, said Capt. Benjamin Curle, 1067th TC commander, and a Harrisburg native.

“Over the years, I find competition is one of the best ways to train the Soldiers. They’re having fun and getting extra practice too. Most importantly it’s great for morale,” said Curle.

The Soldiers start with 20 points, but lose two points for every error. The drivers are allowed several attempts, but the negative points carry over with each try. The events ranged from backing the vehicles into a confined space to a serpentine event, where the driver must navigate through a series of cones.

In the event of a tie, the Soldiers will take a written exam to decide a champion.

Staff Sgt. Jonathan Osbourne, the noncomissoned officer in charge and a Doylestown resident, said the Soldiers are able to sharpen their skills in an accident free environment.

Additionally, Soldiers pass on methods and techniques to less-experienced drivers.

Members of the 1067th TC were eager to take home the distinction of being the best driver. Each lane had Soldiers at-the-ready to prove their driving skills surpassed those of their peers.

At the end of the day, though, there can only be one champion.

The winner of the 1067th Transportation Company inaugural Truck Rodeo was Staff Sgt. William Bonacci, a heavy vehicle operator and squad leader who resides in Browns Mills, New Jersey. They also recognized Spc. Rickey Buckler also a heavy vehicle operator and a resident of West Chester, whom had top score for the lower enlisted.

“Ultimately this is a great event. The Soldiers talk, get pointers and most importantly build team spirit while having a good time,” said Curle.
