KADENA AIR BASE, Japan – The Bob Hope Primary School and 10th Regional Support Group signed the Partners in Education Proclamation on May 8 in front of the school grounds.

Prior to the ceremony community members were excited about the prospects of having the U.S. Army participate with the students and administrators in celebration of education.

“I'm thrilled about the new PIE agreement and I'm very proud that we, as a community, are realizing the value in working together to improve students' educational experiences,” said Principal Vanessa Faerber, Bob Hope Primary School.

“I feel very confident about the partnership with BHPS that 10th RSG has established. I view this partnership as a huge opportunity to engage our local community. This also provides additional opportunities for our Soldiers to interact with the students, staff, and administrators,” explained Command Sgt. Maj. Sheldon R. Williamson, 10th RSG.

Over the years, the Department of Defense Dependents Schools have established a strong working relationship with their local military commands. Through a program called “Adopt a School,” the expertise and talents of active duty personnel are called upon to help students in tutoring and mentoring programs. The proclamation serves as a formal acknowledgment outlining the responsibilities of both parties.

“The children know Soldiers are heroes and are so very excited to work with them on educational activities,” stated Faerber. “They understand the value of their education and the importance of learning when soldiers take their time to come to the school and assist educators. Such partnerships, such as the PIE agreement, allow us to offer additional learning opportunities, such as field day, science, technology, engineering and math program and career day to students.”

Army Soldiers will continue to volunteer to assist with this amazing program.
