CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait – The 452nd Combat Support Hospital and the Camp Arifjan Red Cross station held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the donation of wellness items by the Red Cross to the U.S. Military Hospital-Kuwait. The donation included a complementary and alternative medicine cart filled with aromatherapy items, a massage chair, noise-canceling machine, flat screen television and other items that are self-care and stress reduction tools for patients and staff.

These items will be housed in the intensive care unit and will be available for use by all hospital departments. The donation of these items came to fruition by the hard work of a team led by Capt. Misty Ward, USMH-K troop medical center and specialty care clinic officer in charge.

"The Red Cross station is an exceptional partner to work with. These items represent how committed the Red Cross is to providing care and services to soldiers, in addition to the emergency services they provide," said Ward.

Ward recently held a training session to educate 452nd Combat Support Hospital nurses and medics on the topic of aromatherapy and its benefits for soldiers. These wellness items will increase the understanding of the role of aromatherapy and wellness in aiding treatment.

In addition to the wellness items, an American Red Cross flag was flown in from Afghanistan and will be on display in the hospital lobby.

“For over 100 years, the Red Cross has been a partner to the United States military and provides many services to our soldiers and families to include deployment training and education for families and emergency communication services,” said Capt. Karen Anderson, officer in charge of the USMH-K emergency medical treatment department in her opening comments. “We will proudly exhibit the Red Cross flag with pride.”
