    311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – Col. Gaspare Magaddino, 311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command chief of staff, and LAPD Sgt. Robert White, LAPD Valley Traffic Division supervisor, combined forces to support the LAPD Car Show and Safety Fair at Warner Center Park in Woodland Hills, Calif. May 31.

Soldiers from the 730th Transportation Company, Bell, Calif., and the 387th Quartermaster Company Mortuary Affairs, West Los Angeles, contributed to support the car show and safety fair by providing tactical military vehicles for the day’s event.

This family community event is designed to increase the awareness of traffic safety and display more than 300 classic cars, a LAPD helicopter flyover, a SWAT-K9-Bomb Squad display, a LAPD's Motorcycle Drill Team performance, 25 Food Trucks to feed the masses, raffles and a silent auction.

“The weather is perfect to have such a great car show,” said Col Magaddino. “We always enjoy supporting these types of events, but supporting the LAPD is even sweeter.”

This annual “Still Saving Lives Car Show and Safety Fair,” hosted by the LAPD, is in its 11th year. A “Don’t Drink and Drive” campaign was highlighted with an example of a smashed car and a rescue demonstration.

Throughout the day, thousands of people enjoyed many of the classic cars on display and hundreds of people crawled on and in the military vehicles. Humvees and an Oshkosh Palletized Load System, a vehicle used to move cargo, were on display. These vehicles were a big hit with the children.

“We appreciate the support from the 311th ESC,” said Sgt. White, who is also a retired U.S. Army colonel. “The combined show of support from the community made this a very successful event.”

Organized by the Valley Traffic Advisory Council, the goal of the event is to establish an involvement between the community, local schools and the police department. The VTAC is comprised of a group of dedicated individuals, business owners and community leaders who offer their time and efforts towards building a safer community.

The intent of this event is to introduce meaningful programs designed to educate and improve the conditions and public relations within the San Fernando Valley. All proceeds of the event go to support the officers of the Valley Traffic Division.
