LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. – Members of the 311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command Family Readiness Group attended the 8th Annual Family Readiness Group Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, Calif. May 29.
Sponsored by the Association of the United States Army Greater Los Angeles Chapter, this event thanked 26 individuals for their volunteer work with the Family Readiness Group program.
“This event is important because it honors those volunteers who have support the FRG program,” said Theresa Olson, 311th ESC FPC. “This is the eighth annual luncheon held to appreciate our volunteers.”
The Family Readiness Group program is a command-sponsored organization of family members, volunteers, Soldiers and civilian employees associated with a particular unit. They are normally organized at company and battalion levels, and fall under the responsibility of the unit's commanding officer.
FRG's are established to provide activities and support to enhance the flow of information, increase the resiliency of unit soldiers and their families. This luncheon was hosted to celebrate National Volunteer Appreciation week.
Julie Kelly, 311th ESC Family Readiness Group representative, was awarded the Beverly Smiley AUSA Army-Family L.I.F.E. Service Award.
Beverly A. Smiley, who had served 22 years of family readiness service, built relationships and teams across stereotypical walls that allowed communities to bond and grow. Loyalty, Inspiration, Faithfulness and Enriches are the cornerstones of the award.
