    209th Broadcast Operations Detachment

GREENVILLE, S.C. – You packed a bag or two, getting ready to drive to Greenville, S.C. You checked your operation order and your driving directions and made sure your uniforms are clean. When you got to the 1st Lt. Thomas Kukowski Army Reserve Center, you may have asked yourself, “Why am I here, again?”

Incoming 415th CBRN brigade commander, Col. George C. Frank, Jr. answered this question in his opening remarks at the 415th CBRN Brigade Annual Commander’s Conference. He explained to attendees, “You are the heavy lifters for this brigade. We are concurrently performing workshops here.”

He said this year’s conference is the first time all full time staffs, commands, and first sergeants within the brigade have come together in one location. A significant amount of time and effort has been invested in making everyone successful this extended weekend.

Frank said his expectation for the conference is better communication between all echelons and improved cohesion and synergy between subordinate units and the brigade’s staff.

“I expect everyone to leave this conference with a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities, as well as my expectations for Training Year 2015,” Frank said. “I also want everyone here to learn how to better manage their careers. We will have one-on-one career counseling sessions while we’re here.”

All attendees will gain knowledge from the numerous workshops, including MEDPROS, the new evaluation system, unit funding, fuel reports, lodging in kind, food service, and cyclic inventory procedures. To ensure the brigade receives the absolute best training in all issues related to human resources, representatives from the Army Human Resources Command will instruct classes during this weekend’s conference.

Frank explained that no one should leave this weekend without being successful. “You will leave this conference knowing what right looks like,” said Frank.

The brigade will also conduct a change of command ceremony and host a formal dining out. The 415th CBRN brigade commander, Brig. Gen. A. C. Roper, will relinquish command to Frank at the change of command ceremony Saturday morning at the 1st Lt. Thomas Kukowski Army Reserve Center. Saturday evening, brigade Soldiers and civilians will say goodbye to Roper at the dining out in addition to celebrating the traditions and honors of the chemical corps.

“Collectively, this is the best brigade in the entire [335th TS] command,” said Frank. “But we can continue to do better. I look forward to leading this brigade into the future.”

The brigade’s vision is to remain ready and relevant, today and tomorrow. Its goal is to be 100 percent deployable when called upon.

Frank said his focus is on people. “No amount of technological improvements, equipment or computers can replace you, the Soldier on the ground. Our common goal is to meet all future missions in support of our great nation.”
